Three easy steps to overcome procrastination.

Are you the queen/king of procrastination? Is it hard to make yourself do things that you don’t like doing?

When I was growing up, one of the rules of the house was that Saturdays were the cleaning days. Mom also did some minor cleaning throughout the week, but Saturdays were THE cleaning, laundry, etc. days. I hated it! I was thinking that when I grow up I am going to clean whenever I “feel” like it, but not because it’s Saturday and I “have to.”

So, I am all grown up now and of course I was excited not to clean on Saturdays :) BUT …. soon enough I realized that I didn’t really feel like cleaning on Mondays either …. nor did I “feel” like cleaning on Tuesdays or any other day of the week… And, actually, it was even more difficult to make myself do it, as the cleaning duty was hanging over my head …

Now, when I think about the cleaning saga, I realize that when the cleaning duties were a part of my routine, or my “habit”, it was easier to deal with it, as I simply didn’t have a choice or time to think about it, I knew that when the Saturday morning comes, I will be cleaning.

Procrastination fighting rules:

1) Make it your habit and stick with it.

2) Don’t let yourself think about it. The moment you let your ego “talk”, the harder it will be to shut that inner voice up.

3) Assign each task to a place, circumstance or a time line. For example you go to the the gym to workout, you work at your desk, you do cleaning on Saturdays.

And remember it’s easy to stop procrastinating… all you need is a plan! Make it your habit, a part of your routine and you will be surprised with the results!

Trust me, It’s no different than having a habit of brushing your teeth. You don’t like it, yet you brush your teeth twice a day (I hope ;) . You just know that you have to, you don’t think about it, you just go and do it …

Good luck!

PS

Special thanks to my Mom for trying to discipline me. And even if it didn’t work at that time, it surely is working now… :)
